Dagestan has experienced a surge in fish processing since the beginning of 2025. The Caspian Sea provides the bulk of raw materials, with annual catches ranging from 30 to 40 thousand tons. Notably, Dagestani enterprises have already processed over 4,300 tons of fish in 2025, representing 74% of the total volume processed in the previous year.
This growth can be attributed in part to the "Development of the fisheries complex of the Republic of Dagestan" state target program, which has significantly contributed to industry development. The number of processing plants has doubled within a year, now reaching a total of 18 in the republic.
Besides, the burgeoning domestic tourism sector has positively impacted fish processing. Dagestan welcomed 1.8 million tourists in 2024 and anticipates up to 2 million visitors in 2025. The demand for fish products among tourists has stimulated local production growth.
Looking ahead, Dagestan plans to further expand its processing capacity. A new deep-processing facility is scheduled to open in the Kizlyar district in October 2025. This plant will specialize in producing canned goods and products derived from walleye, carp, and other fish species.
