Dagestan has taken the 26th position in a recent national rating of entrepreneurial activity, achieving a score of 333 points. Analysts from the Institute for Socio-Economic Analysis and Development Programs (ISEADP) specifically highlighted the republic's high dynamism in measures stimulating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Understanding the Rating
The ISEADP rating evaluates regions based on two key metrics: the current state of the business environment and its rate of change. This dual approach rewards regions that are actively improving conditions for entrepreneurs, not just those with historically strong economies.
The top of the ranking was led by the Republic of Kalmykia, Udmurtia, and Chechnya. Meanwhile, the most modest indicators were recorded in the Chukotka and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs and Magadan Region. Researchers noted that if the ranking were based solely on the current state of the business environment, Moscow and St. Petersburg would share second place, reflecting their stable, developed ecosystems. However, the inclusion of the "pace of change" metric highlights emerging and rapidly improving regions.
Implications for Business
For entrepreneurs, this ranking serves as a valuable tool. It confirms that authorities in the top-ranked regions, including Dagestan for its dynamism, are implementing effective measures to improve the business climate.
Business owners can use this data to make informed management decisions, monitor regional support trends, and even advocate for new, effective tools for SME development based on proven strategies from leading regions.
