The first hybrid power plant, Kurushskaya HPP, has begun operating in Dagestan. This power plant is the first of its kind in Dagestan and one of the first in Russia to combine various renewable energy technologies to achieve optimal performance.

Kurushskaya hydroelectric power station has a unique feature. Instead of using river water, it uses spring water from a lake formed in the mountains. This water is then sent to the power station to generate electricity, which is used for both electricity production and irrigation of agricultural land.

According to the regional Ministry of Energy and Tariffs, the station was built after the end of World War II on the initiative of local collective farms that sought electrification. The station operates every day, reaching peak capacity during times of increased electricity demand to reduce the risk of power outages in the mountainous region.
