The Republic of Dagestan witnesses a significant surge in fish processing activity during the initial five months of 2025.  As per the statement released by Khadizhat Shamkhalova, the Head of the Fisheries Committee, the volume processed increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2024.

This upward trend is attributed to a notable rise in tourist arrivals to Dagestan. Anticipated visitor numbers for 2025 are projected at approximately two million, exceeding the 1.8 million recorded in 2024. The heightened demand from tourism is fostering the growth of the local fishing industry.

In 2024, the total volume of processed fish reached 5.8 thousand tons. Popular species undergoing processing include white amur, roach, asp, kutum, carp, common sprat, herring, chamois and salmon. These are transformed into smoked, lightly salted, dried, and frozen products, subsequently distributed to major Russian cities such as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Stavropol.

Besides, the implementation of the Irganai Trout investment project is anticipated to further accelerate processing volumes over the next two years. This initiative is projected to increase annual processed fish production by an additional thousand tons.
