During the initial five months of 2025, the processing volume of fishery products in the Republic of Dagestan exhibited a notable 14% surge compared to the corresponding period in 2024. This upward trend is attributed to an increase in tourist arrivals.
In the first quarter of 2024, Dagestan processed 3.5 thousand tons of fish, whereas this figure escalated to 4 thousand tons in the same quarter of 2025. The burgeoning tourism sector, with visitor numbers projected to reach two million in 2025 (compared to 1.8 million in 2024), has stimulated a heightened demand for locally sourced fish products.
Dagestan's fishery processing industry handles a diverse array of aquatic species, including white amur, roach, asp, kutum, silver carp, sprat, herring, chamois and salmon. These are processed into various forms such as smoked, lightly salted, dried, and deep-frozen products. These fish products find markets in major Russian cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, and Stavropol, as well as other regions.
Looking ahead, a further amplification in processing volumes is anticipated over the next two years. The implementation of an investment project by Irganayskaya Trout LLC, aimed at developing trout farming, is projected to augment annual processed fish production by an additional thousand tons.
