One of the largest potato-growing projects in the country is currently implemented in the village of Uchkent, Kumtorkalinski municipal district, Dagestan. The first deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Sharip Sharipov and head of the district Agriculture Department Magomed Agaev, visited the fields to assess the progress of the planting campaign.

Potato seeds have been sown on 60 hectares. Half of this area will be irrigated using drip water system. There are plans to expand the area planted up to 200 hectares.

Sharipov commended the quality of the soil preparation and the use of high-quality seedlings. The proximity to the Sarikhun barchan creates favorable conditions for the early growth of potatoes, which contributes to the goal of import substitution.
