Dagestan Ministry of Industry and Trade reports a persistent shift in consumer preferences within the region, moving away from traditional marketplaces towards contemporary retail formats such as supermarkets and convenience stores.

Supporting this observation, sales figures from markets and fairs declined to 29% between January and July 2025. Conversely, registered trading organizations experienced a surge in total turnover, reaching 71% (compared to 66.4% in 2024).  Overall, the retail trade turnover in the Republic of Dagestan for the first seven months of 2025 reached RUB 514 billion 496.2 million, reflecting a 1.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024 (adjusted for inflation).
