The Cinema Foundation launches a network of specialized cinema halls called "Friendship Cinemas" across the CIS countries this year. The initial locations will be in Dagestan (Russia) and Uzbekistan. This initiative aims to foster intercultural understanding and dialogue through the films produced by Commonwealth nations.

The announcement was made during the XI St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures, presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.

Notably, Makhachkala exhibited positive trends in its cinema industry in 2024, with ticket prices rising minimally (2.9%) compared to other Russian cities, while box office revenue and audience attendance experienced significant increases (20.4% and 17.7%, respectively). This growth is attributed to the opening of two new cinemas, boosting the total number to five in the city.

Noteworthy, since 2024, domestic films have consistently held over 80% of the market share at the Russian box office.
