The artifacts were unearthed at the Gekashalur-1 site in Akushinsky municipal district of the Republic of Dagestan. The archaeologists estimate their age to be around two million years. These stones, which were used as functional tools — such as hammers and sharp points — have been remarkably well-preserved. All these implements were created by the ancient residents of Dagestan, belonging to the Homo ergaster group.
