Due to increasing traffic congestion in the Republic of Dagestan, state-owned company Rosavtodor expands the R-217 Kavkaz highway, a crucial part of the North-South transport corridor.  This expansion includes the construction of bypasses around Khasavyurt and Derbent, as well as the modernization of existing stretches of highway. The objective is to significantly improve travel conditions in the region.

The project is scheduled for completion this year, with the full realization of four-lane expansions on designated sections. The initiative has been subject to discussions between Sergei Melikov, the regional governor and Roman Novikov, the head of Rosavtodor.
