Dagestan authorities are deeply concerned about the escalating spread of radical ideologies online, posing a significant threat to regional stability. Head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, has announced the launch of an online information campaign designed to counter these extremist influences. The top official specifically highlighted the danger posed by social media platforms, where adversaries of the state allegedly recruit followers and propagate terrorist ideologies under the guise of anonymity.
Melikov further revealed that numerous Telegram channels with large audiences disseminate false information, manipulating public opinion and acting in concert with destructive forces. Monitoring efforts have uncovered a multitude of online resources openly promoting extremism and terrorism, while simultaneously soliciting funds for international terrorist organizations.
In the first six months of this year alone, over 700 detrimental materials were detected, the majority of which exhibited extremist content. To address this issue, authorities have requested Roskomnadzor to block the identified platforms.
Melikov has instructed local authorities and municipalities to intensify online information initiatives, particularly on social media platforms, and to bolster law enforcement efforts. The regional governor emphasized the crucial role of utilizing the internet for counter-propaganda purposes. The meeting also addressed security measures for critical infrastructure and crowded areas in anticipation of the upcoming school year and single voting day.
