On December 25, 2025, a humanitarian aid convoy from the Republic of Dagestan was attacked by Ukrainian drones in a border zone, resulting in three deaths and one serious injury. The incident was confirmed by Sergei Melikov, Head of the Republic of Dagestan. The victims included Magomednabi Gadzhiev, Deputy Head of Shamilsky municipal district, and Ali and Murad, volunteers from the public organization “Samоoborona” (“Self-Defense”). A fourth participant, Shamil, was critically wounded and is currently undergoing emergency treatment, with medical teams working intensively to save his life.
The convoy, consisting of two trucks, was delivering humanitarian supplies—including food, engineering tools and letters from children—to Russian servicemen. One vehicle had stopped for mechanical repairs, while the second—a GAZelle van—and an accompanying passenger car were struck by enemy drones. In response, Melikov expressed profound sorrow and ordered immediate state support for the families of the deceased. He also directed relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the mission’s planning, including security protocols, route coordination and logistic decisions.
Melikov strongly condemned the attack, accusing the adversary of violating fundamental norms of warfare. “There are rules even in war—a worthy enemy does not target humanitarian convoys, medics or journalists” he said. The regional governor described the drone strike as a “cowardly act from behind” and “yet another demonstration of their cruelty and moral bankruptcy.”
