The Russian Ministry of Finance has declared the successful execution of the initial budgetary transaction utilizing digital rubles, marking a significant milestone in the pilot program collaboratively undertaken with the Bank of Russia.
This program, which saw the distribution of a public servant's salary in digital ruble form, was explicitly voluntary, allowing recipients the freedom to choose between receiving their allocated funds in conventional currency or digital rubles.
Commencing January 1, 2026, the Russian Treasury and the Bank of Russia will manage operations involving digital ruble accounts, thereby enabling transfers to federal budgets and numerous payments originating from the federal budget.
