The tourism sector in Dagestan continues to see significant growth, with a remarkable increase in both the number of hotels and ethnic lodgings. In the span of just one year, between 2023 and 2024, the number of accommodations in the region has expanded by nearly 30%, surpassing the previous 10,500 rooms to reach an impressive 12,300.
This achievement was highlighted during a meeting between Emin Merdanov, the head of Dagestan's Ministry of Tourism and Sergei Melikov, the regional governor where Merdanov reported on the progress made. The expansion of the accommodation landscape is attributed not only to the construction of new facilities but also to the legalization of the existing ones.
Since 2022, Dagestan has been implementing a comprehensive program aimed at supporting local tourism initiatives. Over the course of three years, a total of 27 projects received grants amounting to over RUB 170 million. However, Merdanov pointed out the need to further improve conditions of many of these facilities. In 2025, the republican authorities will allocate RUB 60 million to fund tourism projects.
