Since the beginning of 2025, the area of quarantine phytosanitary zones in Dagestan has expanded by more than 857,000 hectares, according to a report fr om the regional branch of  the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision.

This increase can be attributed to the extensive monitoring efforts undertaken by the agency since the start of the year. Particular focus has been placed on greenhouse farms wh ere weed and harmful pest species have been identified. As a result, there are now 28 newly designated quarantine zones within the region. Additionally, four new quarantine pests have been detected, including a species known as the western flower thrips, a pest previously unknown in this area.
