The Head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, has underscored the necessity for decisive and comprehensive measures against extremist elements and individuals participating in activities detrimental to the state. The top official affirmed that the campaign against these threats will be robust and meticulous, encompassing enhanced security controls and heightened surveillance within the digital domain.

Melikov acknowledged that Dagestan's distinct geographical position and its ethnically diverse populace render it a target for anti-Russian factions. He cited the terrorist incidents in Makhachkala and Derbent during the previous year as attempts to undermine stability.

To effectively detect and counteract the spread of harmful ideologies, the authorities are intensifying their surveillance of social media platforms and other online channels, the regional governor added.
