Monument to Dagestani pilot Valentin Emirov unveiled in Ingushetia

A monument honoring Valentin Emirov, a distinguished Dagestan-born pilot whose final act of valor occurred within Ingushaetia, will be unveiled. The ceremony is attended by both regional Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov (Head of Ingushetia) and Sergei Melikov (Head of the Republic of Dagestan).
The location for the monument has been chosen to be in front of the T. H. Tsurov Fuel and Energy College in the village of Nizhniye Achaluki. In May, Kalimatov invited Melikov formally to participate in this commemoration, which pays tribute to Emirov's final heroic act, occurred within the borders of Ingushetia.
Valentin Emirov a Soviet fighter pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union (1942, posthumously), participant in the Great Patriotic War in office Commander of the 926th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 219th Bomber Aviation Division of the 4th Air Army of the Transcaucasian Front, Captain. On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. He commanded a squadron in the 36th Fighter Aviation Regiment. In one of the combat sorties on an attack mission, an anti-aircraft shell exploded in the cockpit of his aircraft. Despite being seriously wounded, Emirov brought the plane to his airfield. After recovering, Captain Emirov returned to service and in July 1942 was appointed commander of the newly formed 926th Fighter Aviation Regiment.
During the war till September 1942, Emirov made 170 sorties, personally shot down 7 enemy aircrafts in air battles. On September 10, 1942, while escorting bombers near the city of Mozdok, paired with another fighter, he engaged in battle with 6 enemy fighters, shot down one of them, but was shot down too; therefore, unable to continue the battle, at the cost of his life, he rammed another enemy plane with his burning plane.
