The «Honey Champions of Dagestan» team triumphed at the Bees and Humans International Competition held in Moscow. The event followed the international conference «Bee and Human: Russia and Friendly Countries», which took place in the Russian capital earlier this year. The competition brought together young beekeepers aged 10–15 from 15 different regions of Russia, as well as delegations from international locations such as Oman, Benin, and Jordan.
Dagestan was represented by Amina and Fatima Hasanov, who were accompanied by their esteemed grandfather and mentor, Mirza Hasanov. Hasanov senior is the head of the Nomadic Hasanov Apiary, which is based in Kaitagski municipal district.
Throughout the rigorous competition trials, the "Honey Champions of Dagestan" showcased a profound understanding of bee biology, apiary equipment and their adeptness in handling hives. The Hasanovs' apiary generates two tons of honey annually. Notably, they employ a nomadic beekeeping practice, migrating their hives throughout Dagestan's mountainous terrain. This allows their bees to access a wide variety of floral sources, including several unique plant species found only in the region, contributing to the exceptional quality of their honey.
