Housing, hotels, trade, cafes and beauty salons are the main areas in which Dagestanis often launch new projects and register themselves as individual entrepreneurs (IEs), the territorial body of the Federal Tax Service of Russia reports. According to the regular, in total 52 thousand IEs and legal entities are currently registered in Dagestan.

By the end of 2023, the number of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Dagestan has increased by 19.1%, compared to the end of 2022 when the total number was 44.5 thousand SMEs. Today, SMEs in the North Caucasian Federal District employ approximately 432,000 people, accounting for about 10% of all employees in the region.
