Thanks to its favourable natural and climatic conditions, Dagestan can cultivate tomatoes throughout the year. This makes it one of the leading producers of this vegetable. The pink tomatoes from Dagestan are particularly prized and sought after far beyond the borders of the region.

A large-scale project to cultivate pink tomatoes on an area exceeding 5 hectares is underway in Kumtorkalinsky district of the republic. The "Pink-Aidi" variety of pink tomatoes, with its delicate skin and unique flavour, is grown here. These tomatoes are perfect for salads, slicing and juicing.

Dagestan ranks fourth among Russia’s regions for greenhouse tomato production. The most widely cultivated tomato in the republic is the pink variety. Dagestan vegetable growers have mastered the cultivation of this variety, which is more difficult to grow but very popular on the market. Greenhouses in Dagestan are mainly located on private farms belonging to the local residents.

Successful vegetable cultivation necessitates a combination of diligent labor and advanced technological interventions, according to agricultural experts. Modern greenhouses are equipped with sophisticated systems such as fogging apparatuses, drip irrigation networks, and automated microclimate control mechanisms to ensure optimal growing conditions for tomato crops. The greenhouse infrastructure in Dagestan spans approximately 700 hectares, with pink tomatoes occupying 80% of this area, underscoring their widespread popularity and significant contribution to the region's agricultural sector.
