The Republic of Dagestan is projected to achieve a record-breaking strawberry harvest this year, exceeding 7,000 tons – an increase of nearly 2,000 tons from the previous year's yield.
Available from late May to July, Dagestani strawberries are highly sought after due to their nutritional richness, containing abundant vitamins and essential minerals. Favorable weather conditions contribute significantly to this anticipated bountiful harvest.
Strawberry cultivation in Dagestan covers approximately 2,000 hectares, with Khasavyurtovsky, Kizilyurtovsky and Kumtorkalinsky districts serving as primary production hubs. Magaramkentsky and Derbentsky districts are also notable for their strawberry plantations.
Dagestan cultivates a variety of local strawberry cultivars, including Clery, Asia and Roksana, which are prized for their unique flavor and juiciness. Dagestani farmers employ repeat-bearing strawberry varieties, allowing for multiple harvests throughout the season. This characteristic further elevates the desirability of Dagestani strawberries among both growers and consumers.
