The government of Dagestan is currently engaged in negotiations with Azerbaijani authorities regarding the potential restart of direct flights between Makhachkala and Baku. This initiative follows the suspension of such services in December of last year, precipitated by an incident involving AZAL aircraft.

As to Dagestani prime minister Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the negotiations on re-establishing regular air service with Azerbaijan are in progress. Moreover, Dagestan explores ways to launch direct flights to Iran and Georgia. Abdulmuslimov also announced plans to commence direct air service to Kaluga, Volgograd, Cheboksary and Naryan-Mar in the current year.
