In the wake of recent fires in the Republic of Dagestan, the regional emergency service has provided an update on its firefighting capabilities. 11 drones have been acquired for the forest fire surveillance, with plans to procure one more this year. Moreover, the fleet of fire-fighting equipment has been replenished, with Dagestan forest fire centre now boasting 71 pieces in its inventory.
It is reported that the regional Emergency Committee announced the adoption of a forest firefighting strategy for the year 2025. The region currently has 2,838 firefighters at its disposal, supported by 579 units of equipment.
To date, the area adjacent to the forest has been cleared, with more than 400 kilometers of firebreaks and barriers constructed, resulting in the removal of flammable materials from an area of 784 hectares. A regional call center, 8-800-100-94-00, has also been established to report fires.
