New electric utility to be established in Caucasus

It is proposed to establish a new specialized energy distribution company in the Northern Caucasus, which would take on the role of a guaranteed supplier.

The transition of the guaranteed supplier functions in the North Caucasian region is projected to occur in 2025, with the new entity expected to commence operations the following year. By June 2nd, the Ministry of Energy in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development, Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) and Rosseti will have submit their proposals to the federal government.

At present, Rosseti Northern Caucasus serves as the designated guaranteed supplier in six out of seven constituent entities of the North Caucasian Federal District. Its activities include both transmission and sales in Dagestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia-Alania, Kabardino-Balkar Republic, Karachay-Cherkess Republic and Chechnya. The energy holding company is not only engaged in managing power transmission networks in the North Caucasian region, but also acts as an emergency backup supplier.
