During excavations in the area designated for the construction of a bypass road leading to Derbent, archaeologists unearthed a treasure trove of household items and artifacts belonging to an ancient civilization. Preliminary estimates suggest that these artifacts date back over five thousand years.

The Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences conducts research at the archaeological site known as the Zidyan-Kazmalyar ensemble (a monument of archaeological heritage belonging to the Kura-Arak cultural and historical community of the Early Bronze Age).

Within a short period, fragments of pottery, grain grinders, flint tools, stone axes and ceramic crucibles have been discovered.

According to experts, the findings attest to the advanced state of agriculture, animal husbandry and handicrafts among the local residents more than 5,000 years ago. Upon completion of the research, these artifacts will be relocated to the institute's museum. The primary objective of the archaeological excavations is to preserve Dagestan's rich cultural heritage.
