Damage fr om garbage in water bodies in Dagestan is estimated at hundreds of millions of rubles. The inspectors of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources found accumulation of garbage on the area of more than 26 thousand square meters in the water areas of the Irganay reservoir and the Andi Koisu River. This was caused by violations in waste management in settlements, from wh ere garbage is washed into rivers and accumulates in reservoirs during floods, heavy rains and mudflows.

According to the head of Rosprirodnadzor (Russian environmental watchdog) Svetlana Radionova, the damage caused to the Andi Koisu river amounts to 345 million, while the damage to the Irganai reservoir amounted to 244 million rubles. The department submitted the inspection materials to the law enforcement agencies, which instructed the management of Dagestan municipal districts to eliminate the identified violations.

Besides, a criminal case was initiated against the polluters. After that, the regional Ministry of Natural Resources corrected the territorial scheme of waste management, Radionova said.
