Dagestani weightlifters win tournament in Moscow

Dagestani weightlifters achieved a commendable start at the "Path to Olympus" tournament in Moscow, winning two gold and one silver medals.

Amir Mutalibov triumphed in the under 45 kg category, lifting a total of 91 kg (snatch: 41 kg; clean and jerk: 50 kg). Magomed-Nazim Soltanakhmedov emerged victorious in the under 49 kg category with a total lift of 113 kg (snatch: 52 kg; clean and jerk: 61 kg). Akhyad Manchaev secured the silver medal in this category. Mansur Elmurzaev's protégé, Akhyad Manchaev, achieved a total lift of 75 kg in the under 37 kg weight class (snatch: 32 kg; clean and jerk: 43 kg).

Said Abdulaev, President of Dagestan Weightlifting Federation, commented on the event, noting that the competition featured athletes under 12 years old, with older age groups to follow. He highlighted the team's balanced composition, comprising both established leaders and promising newcomers. He expressed optimism regarding Rasul Shiraev's future performance, despite his inability to participate in the European Championship in Madrid due to visa delays. Additionally, Abdulaev confirmed the safe arrival of three Dagestani athletes – Beibulat Nazirov, Yusuf Sultanakhmedov and Abdullah Elmurzaev – to Madrid and anticipated sharing updates on their achievements soon.
