Muslim Mehtikhanov, a freestyle wrestler fr om Dagestan, has been recognized as the region's most outstanding athlete for the past month by wrestdag.ru.  

Mehtikhanov, who trains at the Saitiev Sport School in Khasavyurt under the guidance of Musa Saydulbatalov and Adam Saitiev, achieved a dominant victory at the Ali Aliyev Memorial tournament held in Kaspiysk. He secured gold after winning all five of his matches with an impressive cumulative score of 55–4, marking his third consecutive triumph at this prestigious event.

While Dagestani wrestlers participated in six competitions throughout May, including the UWW International Rating Tournament in Mongolia wh ere Askhab Saadullayev (92 kg) was absent, Mehtikhanov's performance stood out as exceptionally noteworthy.
Ramazan Ferzaliyev (65 kg) from the Irbaikhanovsky Sports School and Amanula Gadzhimagomedov (92 kg) from Spartak were slightly behind Mehtikhanov on additional indicators; Gadzhimagomedov won four early victories at the Aliyev Memorial.

For the 26-year-old Mehtikhanov, the competition in Kaspiysk was his second in this season. Earlier this year, he won a silver medal at the Ivan Yarygin Cup in Krasnoyarsk in January. Muslim is the fifth Khasavyurt resident to receive the title of "Wrestler of the Month" this year, following Magomed Kurbanov (January), Amanula Rasulov (February), Muhamed-Takhir Khaniev (March) and Ibragim Ibragimov (April) from Makhachkala.
