The National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes have secured the drafting rights to Kurban Limatov, an 18-year-old hockey prospect fr om Shurkli, Russia. Limatov was chosen during the annual NHL Entry Draft, a process wh ere teams select promising young players to bolster their rosters. This draft typically occurs in late June following the conclusion of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the premier championship in professional hockey.
According to Limatov's father, Kurban was one of only two Russian players personally invited to participate in the draft. The Carolina Hurricanes, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, selected him. While initial reports suggested Limatov had already debuted in the NHL, this is inaccurate as teams are currently engaged in preseason activities.
Despite the Carolina Hurricanes acquiring his drafting rights, Kurban remains under contract with Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) until 2027. Consequently, his debut in the NHL is still speculative and contingent upon negotiations between the Hurricanes and Dynamo Moscow. Limatov made his KHL debut for Dynamo Moscow on March 1st.
