A team of wrestlers from Saudi Arabia held a two-week training session in Dagestan. The athletes and coaches settled in Buinaksk and visited local sports schools, which is the first time the kingdom's athletes have visited the region. This became possible thanks to the efforts of Dagestani coach, Yusup Abdusalamov, the famous wrestler who today holds the position of head of the wrestling development department at the Saudi Olympic Committee.

"These guys are champions of Saudi Arabia, but for some of them, this is the first overseas training session in their careers. We did not bring them to Khasavyurt or Makhachkala, the main centers for freestyle wrestling development in Dagestan, as we felt that Buinaksk would be a more suitable place for this training process. The mountain air here and all the conditions for training are created. I think we will soon sign a bilateral agreement so that most of the training sessions for Saudi wrestlers can be held in Dagestan" - Abdusalamov said.

According to Abdusalamov, approximately 3,000 Saudi wrestlers are currently engaged in the sport in 79 different clubs across the country. The Islamic Games in Riyadh will be one of the most significant upcoming events for these Saudi wrestlers based in Dagestan.
