Cargo Traffic Through Dagestan Customs Grows by Nearly 10%

MAKHACHKALA, April 27 – RIA "Dagestan." Vehicle traffic along the Russian-Azerbaijani border showed steady growth, with customs processing around 90,000 freight vehicles in Q1 2026—a 10% rise from the previous year.

Dagestan Customs recorded consistent year-over-year increases at road border checkpoints: 80,900 in Q1 2024, 81,500 in Q1 2025, and 89,200 in Q1 2026. The Yarag-Kazmalyar checkpoint, one of the busiest, saw a 12.5% traffic increase in Q1 2026 compared to 2025.

At the Tagirkent-Kazmalyar checkpoint, an electronic queue system has boosted vehicle processing by 7.5% without reducing inspection quality. This growth highlights the growing role of Dagestan’s border infrastructure in Russia–South Caucasus trade, with modernization efforts enhancing capacity and customs efficiency.
