Dagestan Aims to Harvest Over 6,000 Tons of Persimmons This Year

Agricultural enterprises in Dagestan are expected to gather a substantial persimmon harvest in 2025 – approximately 6,000 tons. According to preliminary estimates from the republican agricultural sector, this harvest volume will significantly contribute to supplying consumers across Russia.

The largest portion of these juicy fruits is traditionally cultivated in the southern districts of the republic, including Derbent, Magaramkent and Suleyman-Stalsky municipal districts. Shish burun, Hiyakume, Hachiya and Sidles are among the widely grown and popular varieties in the region. Besides, Dagestan is known for its unique type of small, dark persimmon, which is harvested during the winter period.

Climate change is creating favorable prospects for the development of subtropical agriculture in southern Dagestan. As a result, the republic has the potential to become a leader in the program to replace imported persimmons with domestically produced ones.
