MAKHACHKALA, February 28 – RIA "Dagestan". Makhachkala Airport served approximately 2.8 million passengers in 2025, according to the airport's annual performance report. The increase in passenger traffic was driven primarily by the expansion of the route network, facilitated in part by the federal air transport subsidy program.
Magomed Amirkhanov, the deputy director general of the airport, noted that the number of subsidized routes grew from one in 2018 to 13 by 2025. The top manager stated that work to further expand the route network would continue in 2026. Developing interregional air connections remains a central focus of the airport's development strategy.
