Dagestan Ranks Among Russia's Leaders in Melon Crop Harvesting

MAKHACHKALA, August 13 – RIA "Dagestan". Dagestan has emerged as a key melon-producing region alongside Astrakhan, Volgograd, Orenburg and Krasnodar Krai. According to the Russian Agricultural Bank, the national gross harvest for 2026 is projected at 1.6–1.7 million tons, fully satisfying domestic demand across 92,000 hectares of sown area.

Dagestan accounts for approximately 8,000 hectares of this total and has already harvested over 172,000 tons with field work still underway. Nationally, personal subsidiary farms cultivate about two-thirds of melon acreage, while commercial farms manage the remaining third.
