Dagestani Scientists Develop Dietary Supplements for Caucasian Cows

MAKHACHKALA, October 9 – RIA "Dagestan". Federal Agrarian Scientific Center across Dagestan has developed a novel multi-component mineral feed supplement designed to mitigate metabolic disorders in ruminants across the Caucasus lowland and highland zones.

The briquette-formulated veterinary preparation addresses endemic biogeochemical deficiencies of essential trace elements in the region. Aa to Dr. Abdulgamit Aliev, the principal investigator, the formulation is optimized for local climatic conditions and provides a sustainable mechanism for enhancing reproductive, immune and antioxidant functions. The economic and biological imperative for this intervention is significant: regional dietary imbalances in protein and bioactive compounds currently suppress bovine productivity to 50–60% of genetic potential and inflate feed conversion costs by up to 35%.

Developed by the laboratory of non-infectious diseases following a rigorous audit of local forage and metabolic baselines, the supplement was subjected to year-long in-vivo trials on Caucasian Brown cattle.

Clinical outcomes indicated a successful normalization of hematological parameters, including erythrocyte counts and hemoglobin levels, alongside elevated serum macro- and micronutrient concentrations. Prophylactically, the mineralized regimen significantly reduced the incidence of metabolic pathologies, including mastitis, endometritis and forestomach dysfunctions, thereby optimizing overall dairy herd performance.
