Federal Fisheries Agency Representatives Visit Dagestan to Review Terminal Modernization

MAKHACHKALA, October 29 – RIA "Dagestan". The comprehensive modernization of the fishing terminal at Makhachkala Sea Commercial Port is scheduled for completion in 2027. This timeline was confirmed by Andrey Yakovlev, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries (Rosrybolovstvo), during an official working visit to Dagestan.

The facility currently features refrigeration chambers with a capacity of up to 1,500 tons and a processing workshop capable of handling 100 tons of fish per day, including shock-freezing capabilities. Initial phases of modernization have already generated approximately 100 new jobs. The project’s strategic objectives include increasing Caspian sprat (kilka) catches, expanding transshipment capacities and improving vessel servicing.

During discussions with Acting Chairman of the Government of Dagestan Magomed Ramazanov, the parties outlined further areas of interagency cooperation.

Currently, Dagestan hosts 214 industry enterprises, with annual catch volumes exceeding 30,000 tons and aquaculture production reaching 7,000 tons, ranking the republic 12th nationally in commercial aquaculture. A cooperation agreement between Rosrybolovstvo and M.M. Dzhambulatov Dagestan State Agrarian University has become a key outcome of the visit. Under this framework, students will gain access to internships at the North Caucasian Territorial Directorate of Rosrybolovstvo, the Terek-Caspian Branch of Glavrybvod and the Caspian Branch of the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography.
