MAKHACHKALA, August 5 – RIA "Dagestan". Dagestan State Opera and Ballet Theater successfully premiered Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin, with sold-out performances and extended audience applause.
Directed by Lyaysan Safargulova from Ufa and conducted by Honored Artist Ilya Petrenko, the production was appreciated by critics for preserving Pushkin’s spirit while highlighting the emotional depth and tragedy of unfulfilled hopes.
Acting Minister of Culture Zarema Butaeva attended the premiere, citing full houses as evidence of growing interest in classical art and confirmed that the opera will join the permanent repertoire following its creation through a Russian government grant.
