Dagestan to Strengthen Protection for Rare Flora and Fauna Species

As part of its biodiversity preservation efforts, Dagestan's People's Assembly has given provisional approval to a draft statute enhancing protective protocols for rare and endangered plant and animal species in the republic.

Asiyat Aliyeva, head of the People's Assembly Committee on Agrarian Affairs, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, and Environmental Protection, presented amendments to Dagestan's "On the Red Data Book" law proposed by United Russia deputies.

The draft legislation aligns with federal requirements for protecting regional Red Data Book species, Aliyeva said. The amendments prohibit harvesting protected plants and fungi and hunting listed animals, permitting such acts only in extraordinary circumstances under federal government rules.

Besides, the draft allows commercial trade of Red Data Book plants and fungi only in rare instances and only with a permit from the special executive authorities, in accordance with federal regulatory frameworks.
