MAKHACHKALA, November 4 – RIA Dagestan. A new logistics initiative is underway in the Republic of Dagestan, with plans to construct a large-scale "Dry Port" in Makhachkala. According to Dzhambulat Gadzhiev, Acting Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Republic of Dagestan, the facility is designed to handle all types of transit cargo moving in direct and mixed traffic along the "North-South" International Transport Corridor (ITC).
Functioning as a comprehensive land terminal rather than a simple warehouse, the Dry Port will serve as a critical multimodal node. It will accommodate arriving trains and trucks, facilitating cargo sorting, customs clearance and reloading operations. From this hub, goods will be efficiently routed to destinations in Iran, India, the Persian Gulf region, or deeper into the Russian Federation.
Strategically, the Dry Port is expected to significantly alleviate pressure on existing marine port infrastructure. By absorbing a substantial portion of land-based logistical operations, the facility will enable marine terminals to operate with greater speed and efficiency.
"The construction of a Dry Port in Makhachkala is a bold and well-founded decision. We are ceasing to be just a transit point on the map. We are transforming into a full-fledged logistics hub that connects the markets of Europe and Asia. I am confident that upon implementation, Makhachkala will secure its status as one of the primary transport centers of southern Russia" - the Acting Minister stated.
