Government Commission Begins Work on Flood Response in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA, April 9 – RIA Dagestan. Dagestan has launched large-scale operations to address flooding caused by heavy rains. President Vladimir Putin ordered the creation of a government commission, which has already started work in the republic.

Dagestani head Sergei Melikov met with EMERCOM chief Alexander Kurenkov, Construction Minister Irek Faizullin and other commission members. A full commission meeting gathered today to decide on extra support for affected residents and to speed up recovery efforts.

An EMERCON aircraft has brought over 23 tons of aid, including pumps, heaters, chainsaws, and bottled water.

Melikov expressed gratitude to Construction Minister Irek Faizullin for his ongoing focus on Dagestan, pointing out that Faizullin would assist in restoring damaged facilities, examining energy infrastructure and assessing problematic construction sites in Makhachkala.

"We must synchronize our efforts with federal agencies and continue following President Putin's directives: to help people, support them and ensure they are fully informed at all times" – the regional governor stated.

The damage is enormous, Melikov acknowledged, but unity will see Dagestan through. Support—both verbal and material—has come from other regions and friendly countries. Russian celebrities, athletes and volunteers from across the country have stepped up.

Melikov specifically thanked the team of Umar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association, working with major public organizations. Over a thousand volunteers from the Boxing and Wrestling Federations, the "Healthy Motherland" movement and the "Russian Cross" Foundation are already on the ground. In the first days alone, they delivered more than 100 tons of drinking water, food, rubber boots, ponchos, heaters and other essentials. Volunteers help affected residents directly.

"Thank you all for your support in this difficult time. We will not forget it" - Melikov confessed.
