MAKHACHKALA, March 17 – RIA Dagestan. A public discussion of the design project for the proposed Youth Center has taken place in Makhachkala city administration, with participation of city and republican officials, community activists and students.
As to Dzhambulat Salalov, Mayor of Makhachkala, the city has the largest youth population in the North Caucasian Federal District, with over 275,000 residents aged 14 to 35 representing more than 37% of the total population. The top official indicated that effective youth policy is considered an important component of the city's socio-economic development and community engagement efforts.
According to available information, Makhachkala was previously the only capital city in the Northern Caucasus without special municipal youth infrastructure. The decision to establish a multifunctional Youth Center combining cultural, entertainment, leisure and educational components was made in late 2025 with support from Head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov.
The city administration plans to submit an application for the All-Russian competition "Region for Youth" in 2026 to seek additional funding for modern youth-oriented spaces. Prior to advancing the project, the city completed required judicial procedures and addressed legal encumbrances on the designated territory.
