MAKHACHKALA, August 27 – RIA "Dagestan". R. Gamzatov Dagestan State Pedagogical University received 11,175 applications in 2026, up 20% or 1,840 applications from the previous year, reflecting growing interest in the teaching profession among regional applicants.
The university attributes the increase to the development of educational infrastructure, an expanded range of programs, stronger practical training and state support measures for teachers.
The regional trend mirrors national growth: universities under the Russian Ministry of Education received more than 714,500 applications, a 35% increase year-on-year.
As to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, the young people increasingly see teaching as a reliable career path and a way to contribute to the country's development. The top official cited support measures under the "Youth and Children" national project, including school infrastructure renewal, the "Zemsky Teacher" program and educational forums.
Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov noted that the special status of teachers established by a presidential decree also boosted interest in the profession through support measures, career opportunities and social protections.
