MAKHACHKALA, August 10 – RIA Dagestan. Since the beginning of 2026, 638 in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures have been performed in Dagestan. The total cost of these procedures amounted to RUB 68 million. This figure represents 86% of the annual target of 1,420 procedures. During the same period in 2025, 661 procedures were completed (82% of the annual plan).
Infertility treatment using assisted reproductive technologies, including IVF, has been covered under the basic compulsory health insurance (CHI) program since 2013. The only exceptions are cases involving donor material or surrogacy, which patients must pay for out of pocket.
To obtain a referral for IVF, couples diagnosed with infertility must visit their local women’s health clinic. There, they undergo a comprehensive set of examinations and consultations with medical specialists, after which a decision is made regarding the medical necessity of the procedure.
This year, as part of the state healthcare guarantees program, preventive health screenings are also being conducted to assess the reproductive health of men and women aged 18 to 49. Over the past six months, more than 176,000 people have undergone these screenings (47.4% of the annual target).
In 2026, the list of free tests covered by compulsory health insurance has been expanded: laboratory tests (including infection swabs and semen analysis) and diagnostic imaging, which were previously paid services, are now available free of charge as part of the examination.
