MAKHACHKALA, July 10 – RIA "Dagestan". According to June health check-up results published by the Russian Public Health Ministry, Dagestan boasts one of the nation's lowest smoking rates at 8.85%, placing it among the most favorable regions alongside Chechnya (0.54%), Krasnodar Krai (4.34%) and Ingushetia (5.98%).
In contrast, Oryol Region recorded the highest prevalence at 60%. The data highlights the success of Southern Federal District regions in addressing tobacco addiction. Health authorities stress that declining smoking rates are essential for improving public health, specifically by reducing cardiovascular and oncological illnesses and boosting life expectancy.
