MAKHACHKALA, August 20 – RIA Dagestan. The Republic of Dagestan ranks first in Russia for the number of sports grounds equipped under the urban improvement program since 2025. To date, 44 sports facilities have been built in the region. Rounding out the top five are Bashkortostan (40 facilities), Samara Oblast (32), Leningrad Oblast (29) and Tula Oblast (28).
According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, modern and accessible sports facilities are an essential part of a comfortable living environment. Public demand is strong and the government works to meet it through tangible infrastructure projects, with an additional 462 sports grounds scheduled to be built across the country this year.
All facilities are designed for a range of age groups, from children to seniors, and are fully accessible to people with limited mobility. Special attention is paid to landscaping, lighting and convenient access.
The federal "Formation of Comfortable Urban Environment" project started in 2017. Since then, roughly 120,000 public spaces have been improved across the country, creating more than 30,800 jobs and around 7,000 new commercial spaces.
