MAKHACHKALA, October 14 – RIA "Dagestan". September 2026 epidemiological data from the Russian Public Health Ministry confirms position of Dagestan as the fifth-lowest smoking region nationally, with an adult (18+) prevalence rate of 8.81%.
The top decile is characterized by pronounced geographic clustering: four of the ten lowest-prevalence federal subjects belong to the North Caucasian Federal District, led by the Chechen Republic (0.28%), followed by Ingushetia (5.94%) and North Ossetia–Alania (10.19%).
Krasnodar Krai (4.51%) and Tuva (6.26%) represent non-Caucasian exceptions within this cohort. The remaining positions are held by Yamalo-Nenets AO, Mordovia and Chuvashia. Longitudinal analysis indicates structural stability in this ranking over multiple annual cycles, reflecting persistent sociocultural determinants of tobacco use: national republics maintain suppressed consumption norms, whereas Siberian and Far Eastern regions exhibit elevated prevalence rates, suggesting divergent regional risk profiles requiring differentiated intervention strategies.
