Led by Malik Gafurov, head of the Anatomical center of Dagestan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (DSC RAS), a team of researchers has been conducting extensive studies since 2016.  Their work involved three expeditions traversing mountainous, foothill and lowland regions, analyzing over 1,300 water sources. Notably, this project employed an integrated approach to analysis, the first for the region.

The culmination of these efforts is the monograph "Chemical analysis of drinking waters of Dagestan" - a comprehensive resource detailing the chemical composition, location and coordinates of various water sources. This allows for the identification of both sources with therapeutic properties and those potentially contaminated with harmful substances.

Governor Sergei Melikov recognized the importance of the recently completed study on water quality in Dagestan and presented diplomas to its authors: Malik Gafurov, Akhmed Amirov, Zaur Kubataev and Arsen Magdiev.

This comprehensive monograph is expected to become a foundational resource for addressing environmental concerns related to water quality in the region.  Its detailed findings will benefit both academic researchers and the general public by providing essential knowledge for making informed decisions about water usage.
