MAKHACHKALA, April 24 – RIA "Dagestan". A two-day master class on minimally invasive technologies in oncologic surgery was held at the Republican Oncology Center in Makhachkala.
A team of specialists from Moscow, led by Nikolai Vorobyov, Deputy Director of the P.A. Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute, collaborated with local Dagestani physicians to perform a series of high-tech surgical procedures.
Notably, for the first time in the North Caucasian Federal District, surgeons performed a complete breast reconstruction using the patient's own tissue from the anterior abdominal wall. The procedure was carried out on a 42-year-old patient who had previously undergone treatment for breast cancer. The surgical team simultaneously performed an abdominoplasty (abdominal contouring) and used the harvested tissue to reconstruct the removed breast.
As to Mirza Murachuev, Head of the Breast Tumor Department at the Republican Oncology Center, such advanced techniques improve rehabilitation outcomes for patients.
The master class program also featured advanced laparoscopic and thoracoscopic interventions, showcasing cutting-edge approaches to cancer treatment. Surgeons performed operations on the prostate, lungs and intestines. The use of minimally invasive techniques significantly reduces surgical trauma, shortens patient recovery times, and improves oncological treatment outcomes.
