Dagestani Chess Player Wins Silver at International Tournament in Baku

MAKHACHKALA, July 27 – RIA "Dagestan". Ruslan Gadzhiev, a trainee of Anatoly Karpov Makhachkala Chess School, finished as silver medalist at the international "Alexander Aslanov Memorial" in Baku after accumulating 7 points in nine round-robin games against competitors from four countries. Though equal on points with Azerbaijani player Pasham Alizade, tie-breaks placed the Dagestani FIDE Master second in the norm-qualifying event.

Gadzhiev, trained by Artur Velikhanov, has moved one step closer to the International Master title after posting his second qualifying result — adding to the first from the 2025 Ivi Grand Prix Chess III. The Russian Blitz Champion and Dagestan team leader was congratulated by federation chief Dzhakay Dzhakaev.
