MAKHACHKALA, April 21 – RIA Dagestan. Alexander Tikhonov, a four-time Olympic biathlon champion, has arrived in Dagestan. In Makhachkala, he attended the republican pistol shooting competitions for the Alexander Tikhonov Cup, an event that carries his name and aims to promote marksmanship among the local youth.
Tikhonov also reunited with his longtime friend, Zagalav Abdulbekov, the first Olympic champion from the Northern Caucasus in freestyle wrestling—a historic achievement that opened the door for generations of Dagestani wrestlers on the international stage.
Tomorrow, Tikhonov is scheduled to meet with representatives of Dagestan's sports community at Dagestan Sports Museum. This meeting will focus on the development of youth sports, mentorship programs and strengthening the ties among the legendary athletes and emerging talents.
